Road Bike Touring: Tahoe - Ashland - Klamath
Falls Just ask
and you shall receive an answer to your question by one of the most foremost
experts on adventure sport gear in the industry.
When you look at a road map of California there is a very
obvious spine road on the eastern boundary and even into Nevada for a short
time, this is US 395. But, at the northern end of the state running north from
just south of Lake Tahoe, there lies a road that runs close to the crest of the
Sierra into the southern Cascades. This is State Highway 89, and it is the
route of a wonderful Northern California tour, traveling north to the Town of
Ashland Oregon then east to Klamath Falls.
The route
follows the Truckee River north out of Tahoe City to the Town of Truckee, then
north to Sierraville, Graeagle, Quincy, Greenville, Lake Almanor, Lassen
Volcanic National Park, McArthur-Burney Falls State Park, the Towns of McCloud,
Mt. Shasta, Yreka, and Ashland , before turning east on Oregon Highway 66 to
end in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
Along the way
are many rivers to be swam and fished, high mountain meadows to be viewed and
open mountain vistas around every corner, including Mt. Shasta, the Monarch of
Northern California Peaks.
