Fitness
Therese Iknoian combines both
enthusiastic participation and academic knowledge in both sports training and
outdoors. She has her masters degree in exercise physiology, is a former
nationally ranked race walker, and an internationally published free-lance
sports & training writer whose work has appeared in Backpacker, Walking,
Men's Health, and Fitness, among others. She is the author of Mind-Body
Fitness for Dummies (IDG, Nov. 2000), and of the upcoming Tai Chi For
Dummies (IDG, Aug. 2001). She has authored two books on walking (Fitness
Walking and Walking Fast, both Human Kinetics). She has developed fitness and
walk/run programs for several international companies including Polar, Nike,
and Star Trac, where she developed Trekking, The Total Treadmill Workout for
runners and walkers.
Therese is also a partner/editor in
GearTrends.com, a sports gear
information site, and SNEWS, an outdoor and fitness trade newsletter, with her
husband Michael Hodgson, and is the founder of fitness information site
Total Fitness Network.com. She
is a Health/Fitness Instructor certified by the American College of Sports
Medicine and the American Council on Exercise, as well as a USA Track &
Field Level II-certified coach. As a race walker, she was ranked 24th overall
woman in the country in 1995, and in 1994 broke the world record for her age
group for the Indoor 3K. She ran her first marathon in 2000 in 3 hours 45
minutes, qualifying for Boston 2001 where she also competed and finished. In
1999, she began competing in Adventure Races, and her team placed 3rd in the
corporate division in the New York Hi-Tec Adventure Race. These days, if she's
not writing, she's out running, mountain biking, climbing, or looking for the
next fitness adventure challenge.
