MOUNTAIN BIKE RIDE AT A GLANCE

Difficulty: Beginner with an attitude
Elevation:
Elevation Gain: 200 feet
Ride Distance: 24 miles round trip
Time: 1 hour to 1 full day
Scenic Quality: AAA - Killer!!!

How to get there:

This little known trail is found on Scenic Highway 7 north out of Russellville, Arkansas. To get to the trail take I-40 to Hwy 7 N towards Jasper Arkansas. The trailhead is about a twenty minute car ride from Russellville. Stay on Hwy 7 N until you see the sign for Moccassin Gap Horse camp. This is the trailhead. Maps are in the board at the trailhead or you can get a map and directions from Doug and Dave Stephens at Highlander Cycling in Russelville. Tell them that I sent you and that I said Hi!

The ride:

The scenery is AWESOME and the ride is pretty tough in places but it is all great. The high mountain loop is the toughest and also the most scenic. Maps and trail info are at the trailhead

Camping:

There is abundant camping in the area and other outdoors sports to partake in. The best place to camp would be at Long Pool. This campground has just been remodeled and has no fee in the winter and spring. Or if you want to hotel it there are a number of hotels at the I-40 and Hwy 7 Interchange.

What to bring:

Bring a water filter, especially during the summer months, the humidity here can really get ya.

Where to eat:

All the fast food places are in Russellville as well as some pretty good places such as Madamme Wu's Chinese, and the Old Mill steak house in the Holiday Inn. Stoby's is my personal favorite though. It is located on the train tracks near Harvest Foods (the mall building where Little Caesar's is)
